Organic Farming
Recently, We had the wonderful opportunity to visit the farm of a farmer in Rayanal Hubballi. What made this visit particularly exciting was the fact that practices organic farming and vermiculture. As someone who is passionate about sustainable agriculture, we was eager to learn about this practices and see how they were being implemented.
One of the main practices is vermiculture. Vermiculture is the process of using worms to break down organic matter into nutrient-rich fertilizer. They had dedicated area on their farm where they raises worms and uses their castings as fertilizer. Not only is this method more sustainable than traditional fertilizers, but it also produces higher-quality crops.
Then they explained how they prepares organic manure using cow and sheep dung. They collects the dung from his cows and sheep and stores it in a pit for several months. During this time, the dung breaks down and decomposes, creating a rich and nutrient-dense fertilizer.
After the dung has decomposed, mixes it with other organic matter such as leaves, straw, and vegetable scraps. He then lets the mixture sit for several more months, allowing the composting process to take place. This process creates a nutrient-rich organic manure that he uses to fertilize his crops.
